I was hungry

English Muffin with pesto and mozzzz and hummus

This is what I had for brunch yesterday. It was okay, at first I didn't like the balance of flavors, especially the pesto. But it grew on me. If I hadn't waited so long after the muffin was done toasting to eat it it would have been better too. Instead I wasted a lot of time tryingto figure out how to melt the cheese.

Central Market Hot and Sour Soup

We went to Central Market to get free samples (I didn't take pictures) and I had some of my fav. apple cider and a cheese that tasted like an everything bagel. Then we decided to get dinner there, and I was thrilled to see they had hot and sour soup yesterday. I love hot and sour soup. It wasn't nearly as good as John's tortilla soup, but it was okay. Also the broth was more like a thick jelly, I prefer Pan Acean's.

Central Market California Roll

Sushiii. I was hungry. This wasn't that bad. The last time I had prepackaged grocery store sushi I swore it off because it was so bad. But this was decent. It wasn't fresh, and I like it better warm but whatev. There's never enough soy sauce in those little packets.

Midnight Feast

Metro Iced Coffee

Once I got off work I was hungry, but I had a group meeting for my ad campaign at Metro. I usually avoid Metro because of its location, on the drag. Also gross hipsters hang out there and it makes me want to run the other way. But today was the first having a drink there and I have to say, I was impressed. I had my usual iced coffee and it was...amazing. There was no bacon flavor. And there was nothing bitter about it at all. I added half a packet of sweet'n'low and it made the drink PERFECT.

John's guacamole

John, what the hell is in your guacamole? It tasted just like avacados and a ton of lime juice but I wouldn't be surprised if you told me there was a secret ingredient. Also, the consistency was perfect...I like it when the avacados retain some shape/ aren't completely turned to mush. That is how my dad does it, he practically beats it with a blender (no offense, Fizz, yours is good too). But this is definitely the best guacamole I've had in years.

John's Tortilla Soup/ Midnight Snack

This is the first time I've had tortilla soup since I regained my omnivoire status. I'm sure I ate it before then but I don't remember. John made the soup completely from scratch. As he will tell you, he made it in haste and supposedly the balance of spices was off. But I thought it was amazing. He even had the act of putting it together into an art. First you put a handful of cheese on the bottom of the bowl (to make it melt better), then some of his homemade tortilla chips, then avacado slices, then add the soup. AHHH it was so good. The chicken was good. The soup was good. The onions were good. Whatever else was in it was good. John, will you make us soup every day?

Food Therapy

Ring Pop

This was my Valentine's Day gift to myself. Ring pops are so frustrating. When I was a kid it would get all slobbery and make my hand all sticky. Now it's just...they take longer to wear away than regular hard candy. and you want to finish it, but no one has that kind of will power.

100th DAY!!!

Chicken with Couscous

This is my other favorite meal of the past 100 days. This is my own spin on something I had at a Mediterranean restaurant I ate at in NYC. What I used tonight was: couscous with flaxseed with parmesan flavoring, and the fresh vegetables I used were tomatoes, green bell pepper, and zucchini. That was the first zucchini I ever bought! and it was really tasty. The chicken was cooked surprisingly well, I just put the breasts in a skillet with olive oil and fresh ground pepper and salt. Gooze, tell everyone how good it was! I know they don't believe me. The recipe at the restaurant in New York had dried apricots mixed with the couscous as well, and different vegetables. I will def. go for the dried apricots next time. Also, it is imperative that you have Out to Lunch hummus with the couscous. Out to Lunch uses more lemon juice that most hummuses that I've tried, and it really adds a spectacular tanginess to the couscous that it would otherwise be lacking.

CUPCAKE!

I had to celebrate my 100 day anniversary by baking cupcakes! Rainbow chip everything! I met a boy who told me that they sell the rainbow chip icing at Randall's so I immediately booked it over to Randall's and stocked up on this sweet gift from the gods. Rainbow chip icing changed my life as a child and eating it tonight took me back to the good old days, truly. The difference between the chips and regular sprinkles..I'm not sure what it is. It is so good that it would be fair to say that it is undescribable, but this is my food blog and I might as well tell you my theory. These are larger version of sprinkles with more moisture, and also they are softened over time by the icing that they are constantly surrounded by.

Maggie with a Deformed Cupcake

My oven produced the most awkward looking cupcakes I've ever seen. They looked like they were vomitting themselves. I think you kind of get the idea from the picture.

Jo's Coffee

Gooze and I went and hung out with her 'rents at the super cool Hotel San Jose. Next door is this really cool coffee/juice/sandwich/dog treat stand called Jo's that I'd never even noticed before. It has a big wood bench and table area... very Austin, in a good way. The coffee was a little bitter and the guy forgot to give me my change and kept asking me if there was anything else he could get me, but in a way that made it seem like I'm a crazy idiot for standing around. After asking me three times he realized I was waiting for my change. I feel pretty awkward about it in retrospect.

Cupcake Moutain

This is all I have left of my 100th Eat Your Tart Out Anniversary.

Busiest Day Ever

Dario's Mexican Restaurant Salsa

This salsa was really good. At first I thought it tasted like barbecue sauce but it actually didn't at all. For some reason it made the water taste really good too.

Dario's Beef Taco and Guacamole Salad

This guacamole was perfectly seasoned and I ate every bit of it. The taco was good but maybe a little overseasoned and also, it was completely stuffed with beef so I couldn't put any of the lettuce, tomatoes or guacamole in there with it. The taco shell had a really nice texture. It was crispy but kind of puffy, not heavy at all.

Dario's Cheese Enchiladas

This was a lot of cheese and I have a feeling that it was velveeta. John's looked a lot better than mine, he got some green chili sauce on his. For some reason this whole meal made me really crave Chipotle. I would go back here but I would probably order something different. It reminded me of the Mexican restaurants back home, I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Becky

Becky's 21st Birthday Cake

My responsibility was to make the cake, which I was happy to do because I love baking cakes. I made my specialty, rainbow chip. This was my first time baking a cake in my oven in this apartment and it was an adjustment. The cake was definitely a little overcooked/ not as moist as it should have been. But it tasted good nonetheless. Also a boy at the party told me that one grocery store in the WORLD (that we know of) still carries the matching rainbow chip icing and it's in Austin. I'm definitely going this weekend. Anyway, as you can tell from looking at this picture, I'm not a pastry chef. I wish my cake decorating skills matched my other kinds of decorating skills but for some reason my hand-icing tube coordination is off. But all the matters is the taste right?

Blah Blah Blah

EZ's Chicken Tenders

I started to make dinner but then Becky called and said "let's go out!" so we went to EZs. They shoot a lot of scenes for that tv show Friday Night Lights there so I feel like I'm a part of something bigger than myself when I eat there. I think the chicken tenders are the best thing they have to offer. One thing should be noted, I asked for honey mustard and they gave me gravy. That sucked. Also I found out that if you show your student ID you get a two dollar discount, which is significant.

Grease

I'm only doing highlights from now until I feel more up for this again. Unfortunately I went to dinner tonight with my parents and forgot my cell phone. So I asked my parents if I could use one of theirs, and they didn't bring them either. Great. Anyway we went to Ole's so there's not much to say. I feel like I ate a tub of grease.

You Can't Win Them All

Ethiopian Spicy Hot Tea

Becky and I went to the Farmer's Market this morning and it was rather disappointing. I think there might have been twenty venders, tops. Becky bought some tomatoes and salad bought I opted just to buy a cup of hot tea from the Ethiopian booth. There you can buy some sort of Ethiopian burrito thing, the tea, or talk with her about catering events. Anyway, the tea was incredible. It tasted like regular, unflavored tea, but after I would swallow my mouth would feel tingly the same way it does after I eat a lot of tabasco on my food. It was really good.

I Didn't Eat Chipotle This Week

Quality Seafood Fried Shrimp, French Fries and Hush Puppies

I went to dinner with Maggie and John and this place is going to be a staple for fried fish from now on. The customers looked pretty legit so I could tell from the moment we walked in that it was going to be good. Also, for a fish place, it didn't smell bad. It just smelled like frying which is always a good thing when it comes to food. So I had the shrimp, they were pretty good but not amazing. Next time I'm definitely going to get the cod. I think hush puppies had jalapenos in them or something. They were definitely hotter than your average puppy. The french fries were delicous, better than McDonalds.

Tortilla Chips

I'll have to ask John what kind of chips these were. They were the best store bought tortilla chips I've ever had. They were seasoned with a little bit of this powder that gave it some killer flavor. They were in a yellow bag.

UPDATE: Julio's, shit.
